The date for Field Day has been changed from May 19th to May 26th(May 26th is a regular school day.  School will not be closed on this day due to the one snow day that was already used.)

Don't miss out!   4 performances only.  
Tickets are $12 each and will be available for purchase through COMMUNITY PASS starting Wednesday, March 8 through Saturday,  March 18.  
After logging into your Community Pass account, go to the "Ridgewood Somerville Children's Theater" tab, and follow the prompts.  
Tickets will be also be available for sale after school (Mon., 3/20-Thurs., 3/23-) on the school's front lawn and at the shows, 30 min. prior to show time.

Yoga Club

Yoga club will continue on Tuesday afternoons in March! We have a few spots open for any students, grade 3-5 who would like to start or continue practicing yoga. We will teach basic yoga poses, practice meditation and breathing techniques. Please email Ms. Clark or Ms. Kiernan. 

Green Thumbs (Grades 3-5)

The Green Thumbs will be embarking on an ambitious project to foster a love and understanding of planting, maintaining and harvesting a vegetable garden.  One of the club's goals is to plant vegetables in the spring that can be harvested before the end of the school year and then have a second planting that we will harvest in the fall.  The club is open to 3rd-5th graders.  The club will meet on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:05 a.m. beginning on March 15th and will end on June 9th.  The group will also have lunch meetings at least one a month.

Recess Skills (Spring) (Grades 3 – 5)

Ever wish you had a place to learn and practice the games that are played at recess? Then this club is for you! Open to all 3rd – 5th graders, join us each Tuesday and Thursday morning in April as we learn the rules and practice the basic skills needed to play some of the more popular recess games! The club will meet in the gymnasium at 8 am and will conclude at the school’s starting bell. This club will include both indoors and outdoors activities depending on weather.

Morning Movers (Grades K – 2)

What better way to start the day than playing games and exercising? Before working out your brain in the classroom, come workout your body with Mr. DeRisi! This club will meet each Wednesday and Friday in April with the exception of International Day (April 7). Join us as we workout, play various tag games, relay races, and other PE games to start the day! Open to all k – 2nd graders, the club will meet in the gymnasium at 8 am and will conclude at the school’s starting bell. This club will include both indoors and outdoors activities depending on weather.

Spring Running Club  (5th Grade)

Running club is a long standing Somerville tradition!  Join us as we practice running technique and build our stamina to run a 5k!  Students will meet on Memorial Day to run the Ridgewood 5k (or 10k)! This club will meet on the Somerville track every Tuesday and Thursday from 3-3:45 beginning April 4th and ending on May 25th.  All 5th graders welcome!

Hello Somerville! Don't miss our hot cocoa stand on March 13!

Brownie Troop #96663 will be selling hot  chocolate and baked goods in front of the school (after school) on Monday March 13. Please stop by for a sweet treat and to support our second grade troop. Funds raised will go towards providing healthy food to local senior citizens in need. Don't forget to bring in your spare dollars next Monday! 

Lesleypalooza -  a month-long email-a-thon to raise money for Lesley Linker, a single mother in the Somerville community, is officially underway!  Ms. Linker’s ability to co-parent lovingly despite her severe physical challenges is an inspiration to those who know her. Ms. Linker is wheelchair-bound with Multiple Sclerosis. She is unable to work, and although she receives financial support from her soon-to-be ex-husband, Lesley continues to be in great need of financial assistance. THANK YOU to the Somerville Science Fair chair people, Brian Loftus and Nirali Bhatia, for putting together an amazing event last week!   It was truly fascinating to see all the different experiments and presentations from our creative young minds here at Somerville.  Thank you again to our chair people, and to all of the volunteers that helped out with the two day event.  We couldn’t have done it without you!! 

DAD’S NIGHT! - The fun is about to begin!  Come see their annual show for two performances only.  This Friday March 10th at 7:00pm, and Saturday March 11th at 2:00pm.  Both performances are held in Ben Franklin Middle School auditorium.  Admission is free!  It’s a good time for all.  Dad’s Night raises funds for both Somerville and Hawes elementary schools through ad sales and other fundraising campaigns.  But the show itself is free! So come on out! 

REGENT CLEANERS - now called RIDGEWOOD CLEANERS -  Support Somerville when you get your clothes dry cleaned or laundered at Regent Cleaners (45 Broad Street) by buying credit through the HSA. Free pickup and delivery!  And they are Organic!!  You get an extra 10% of your credit amount and Somerville gets 20% of the credit amount Questions?  (ie: $100 = $110 in cleaning credit to you, and Somerville gets $20.)  Contact Karin Boucher at She will be collecting checks this week to replenish your account.  Or, start one if you don’t have one yet!

On the horizon…

SEUSSICAL will be performed by none other than our very own Somerville Children’s Theater actors and actresses!  Save the date!  Four shows only!  Friday March 24th @ 7:30pm, and Saturday March 25th at 12:00pm, 4:00pm, and 7:30pm. Tickets will go on sale soon, so be on the lookout for more information. 

INTERNATIONAL DAY Celebration!  International Day is Thursday evening April 6th, and in school for students Friday April 7th.  The I-Day team is still looking for parent volunteers.  You can volunteer to sit at a table and represent your country of origin or just volunteer to pitch in where needed.  Additional guidelines for country tables and performances were emailed via class parents.  You can also fill out this form if you are interested in volunteering:
