New Club Added!

Broadway Bound

Broadway Bound is a club open to all fifth grade students that are interested in attending a Broadway show.  In the spring, club members will attend a performance of a child friendly show (show to be announced once tickets are secured) and eat at a local restaurant near the theater.  Before the show, club members will meet three times to learn about the plot and production enabling them to have a better appreciation of the performance.  We will also meet after the show to share our thoughts. Morning Movers (Grades K – 2) What better way to start the day than playing games and exercising? Before working out your brain in the classroom, come workout your body with Mr. DeRisi! This club will meet each Wednesday and Friday in April with the exception of International Day (April 6). Join us as we workout, play various tag games, relay races, and other PE games to start the day! Open to all k – 2nd graders, the club will meet in the gymnasium at 8 am and will conclude at the school’s starting bell. This club will include both indoor and outdoor activities depending on weather.  Please email to sign up. This club is limited to 25 participants.

Spring Running Club   (5th Grade Only)
Running club is a long standing Somerville tradition!  Join us as we practice running technique and build stamina to run a 5K!  The club runs April-May every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:05-3:45.  The culminating activity will be the Ridgewood Run 2018!

Yoga Club (Grades 3-5 Only) This Club is Now Closed
Welcome to yoga! Yogis will learn basic yoga poses, breathing and relaxation techniques, and find time for quiet meditation.  This is a great stress reliever and anxiety reducing lifelong practice.  Come join us!

Open Studio Art Club (Grades 3-5 Only)
Students in grades 3-5 are invited to come to the art studio to make art in an open studio setting.  This means they are welcome to use the materials to make free choice art as long as they clean up whatever they take out.  Art club students are also invited to put an extra piece of art in the art show!  The club will run every Tuesday from 8-8:35 starting October 3rd.  Just show up to join!

Circus Club (Grade 5)
Ever wanted to run off and join the circus?  Now is your chance!  5th graders can come before school to practice their circus skills.  We meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning starting on October 11th and ending on 10/31.  The culminating event is the 5th grade circus performance for the entire school on Halloween day!

Spring Sports Club (Grades 3-5)
Ever wish you had a place to learn and practice the games that are played in the spring?  Then this club is for you!  Open to all 3rd-5th graders.  Join us each Tuesday and Thursday morning in April as we practice the more popular outdoor sports!  Games will include soccer, basketball, Frisbee, wiffle ball, kickball, and more!

Universe Club (Grade 2-5 Only) This Club is Now Closed
Do you love outer space?  Then Universe Club is for you!  Learn about planets, moons, stars, galaxies, black holes and more.  Come prepared with your best most thought provoking questions and be prepared to have your mind blown!  Please email Ms. Janowski to sign up.  Grades 2-5  Dates:  November 7, 14, 21, 28, December 5, 12, 19.  Room 103 from 3:15-4:00.

Continental Math League (Grade 2-5 Only)
Challenge your brain with higher level math word problems.  Test your knowledge to see how far you can go.  No signups required. 
Grade 2 & 3 tests will take place in regular classroom during school day; one in January, February & March.
Grades 4 meets take place in Room 208 , 8:05-8:35 on 11/2, 11/30, 1/4, 2/1, 3/8.  All 4th graders are welcome to come to one or all meets! No sign-up required.
Grade 5
meets take place in Room 109, 8:05-8:35 on 11/2, 11/30, 1/4, 2/1, 3/8.  All 5th graders are welcome to come to one or all meets! No sign-up required.

iCode Club

Would you like to make your own animated stories?  Would you like to learn more about how your favorite games are made?  Then the iCode Club is the club for you!  No coding experience is necessary, just a willingness to give it a try and a parent or adult helper who is willing to explore with you.

Somerville's iCode Club is not a coding class, but a coding workshop.  Working together, students and parent helpers will figure things out and make projects.  Another session of iCode will be offered later in the new year.  A link to a Google Form signup will be given in September.

Needlework Club (Grade 4 & 5 Only)
Students will learn the craft of embroidery and/or needlepoint.  They will learn a variety of stitches, and work with an embroidery hoop and beginner kit.  Each student will work on their own project while learning this craft.  Each student keeps their project!  Students are responsible for providing their own beginner kit.  Advisor:  Kate O'Rourke Location: Room 208

Handchime Choir (5th Grade Only)

Safety Patrol Club    (5th Grade Only) 
Safety Patrol Club is open to 5th grade students.  Safety Patrol members are responsible for the safe and orderly conduct of other students before school begins.  Members rotate at different school doors throughout the year.  This club runs from September through June.  Please email Mrs. King to join.  Meeting dates TBA.

TV Club (4th & 5th Grade Only)
Somerville Television Club is open to 4th and 5th grade students.  Members will be divided into teams and produce a content rich show that reflects the world around them.  On-air talent, script writing and productions will be explored by members.

Spring & Fall Green Thumbs Club
(Grades 3-5 Only
The Fall Session is Now Closed!

The Spring Green Thumbs will be embarking on an ambitious project to foster a love and understanding of planting, maintaining and harvesting a vegetable garden.  One of the club's goals is to plant vegetables in the spring that can be harvested before the end of the school year. We will have a plant sale and we will end the spring session with a salad party.

The Fall Green Thumbs will have a slightly different focus than the Spring session.  We will be planting bulbs that will enhance the beauty of Somerville.  We will be planting a fall vegetable garden that includes lettuces, broccoli and other greens.

Will Power! Fun Shakespeare 1st  Session (Grade 2-5 Only), 2nd Session (Will only be for grades 3, 4 and 5, and will be more focused on the text analysis.)

Good Morrow!  Cometh learn and play Shakespeare!  Through improvisational acting games, art history projects, comedy writing, brushing up on English history, and dramatic scene study, we shall become Will Shakespeare's BFF!  We will perform a zany and creative original take on some of Shakespeare's Comedies, Tragedies and History plays.  Plays such as Midsummer Night's Dream, the Tempest, Richard the III, and Romeo and Juliet will all be rolled up into one wacky show!  "All the world's a stage," (Bill), so come and play!
